People choose to work at home for many different reasons. There are a lot of benefits to having an at home job. These benefits may work out more from some people than others. Regardless of your personal situation though, they are definitely worth taking into consideration. Deciding to take an at home job is a big decision. While you may not find a company that offers their home agents medical insurance, there are other benefits that may make an at home job worth while. When you work from home you don't have more than a five second commute. You can roll out of bed, grab some coffee, and start up the computer. You don't have to drive anywhere and your don't even have to get dressed. This benefit sounds great to most people, but may be crucial for people who are disabled. Not having proper child care makes it almost impossible to work outside the home, working from home gives you the option to care for your children and earn an income.

 

You can work around your schedule. This makes a work at home job a great option for anyone who has prior commitments. If you need to work around a child's schedule you can. If you need to work around something in your own personal schedule, you can. Flexible scheduling makes working at home great for people with health conditions that require regular treatments, people who are starting a business but need income temporarily, or even those who simply like to travel.

 

You can get your housework done on your breaks. If you have a busy schedule this is an added bonus. When you have an at home job, it is necessary to make a schedule for yourself. The schedule helps to keep you focused, but you also need regular breaks. Use those break times to run the vacuum or throw in a load of laundry. This will help to free up your evenings allowing you to spend more time with your family.

 

There are numerous benefits to accepting an at home job, and you can even find some that will allow you to have the same benefits that you would receive if you worked outside the home. While some companies offer medical insurance and even retirement plans for home workers, not all of them do. It is very possible to earn money from home in your spare time. While rising gas prices continue to climb throughout the US, more and more people are looking to the future of home-based businesses. Recently, a poll was taken by the general population on the percentage of people who are interested in, or are researching the prospects of a home-based business. A staggering 45 percent are eager to start and another 40 percent are seeking information on a home-based business of their choice. If the 40 percent who have looked to start a home-based business begin within the next year and the eager 45 percent join in too,  that is over half of Americans who do not have to get out of their Pajamas in the mornings. Nor do they have to rush around to get the kids off to school before work. Sound refreshing? Eighty five percent of Americans think so!

 

This is good news for single parents and for families with two incomes as well. Being a parent can be hard enough, but throw in the stress of a hectic schedule and the overbearing power of the eight hour workday, and you've got a recipe for catastrophe. Independence is a major factor in a single parents life. Being prosperous at a job and bringing home the bacon at the same time, isn't easy these days and single parents will be the first to express that. The best home based business will be flexible.  Working from home will entail a special set of challenges to pay attention to work even in the face of chores that glare at you.  Many people use home based businesses to decrease their need for child care, so you may be trying to work and care for your children at the same time.  For you, the best home based business will be a flexible one.  You will need to be able to come and go as you please and still complete work in a timely manner to earn your income.

 

The best home based business will be consistent.  Products that are too trendy or that do not have mass appeal might render inconsistent sales.  While high sales are exciting, bottoming out after a period of high sales can reek havoc on your budget and motivation.  As you determine the best home based business for you, look for a company or firm that provides a consistently important and relevant product.  Products that last produce businesses that last.

 

Residual income is the best kind of income.  The best home based business will create sources of residual income.  This is money that makes itself.  Residual income lines are transactions you make once that continues to bring in profit over time.   An example would be copyrighting your writing and then earning income every time someone utilizes it.  This kind of income requires little maintenance work.

Home based business opportunities are growing daily, along with a new spirit of entrepreneurialism and independence. Today’s technology is making working from home far more common today than just a decade ago. Though the general consensus is that more people are working from their homes than ever, finding solid data to prove this can be difficult.

 

Because things change so quickly, much of the data, collected two to four years ago, may be inaccurate.

The latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor are from 2004, but already show a growing trend for men and women working primarily at home. In that year 20.7 million people worked, at least part-time, from their homes most working for another company. About 7 million of those were self-employed…in other words, they were home-based business owners. The average work week for someone working at home, according to the study, was 25 hours, and most were professionals, such as people who offered consulting services or sales related businesses. Another huge chunk of the at-home pie are those working in the construction industry.

 

Though the general belief may be that women far outnumber men working at home, this is not the case. Men and women were about equally likely to work out of their home, and there are more parents working at home than singles.

And, according the Labor Department, home-based businesses are run by educated folks. People with a bachelor’s degree or higher were more than six times as likely to work out of their home than those without college degrees. This is likely because it is easier for someone with a management background to transition to a work-at-home job.

This trend of working at home is partly due to advances in electronics. Most homes have computers with high-speed internet connections. Most people have the basic computer skills to put together a rudimentary website. And information is so readily available, the resources available to someone wanting to work from home are numerous and inexpensive. Also, there are more and more opportunities for people wanting to work from home.

 

In addition, it’s become a much more accepted way of doing business. With the increase in the number of businesses run from homes, it is much more commonplace.

 

According to the NBBTA.org, the online arm of the

 

National Black Business Trade Association, home based business represents a $427 billion industry (this figure exceeds another figure found on this subject). That exceeds the pharmaceutical, food, and consumer goods industries---combined.

 

Home-based businesses are considered small businesses. The Small Business Administration estimates that 52 percent of all small business are home-based---and small businesses (those with less than 500 employees) represents 99.7 percent of all employer firm. The home-based businesses, according to 2007 SBA report, generate $102 billion in revenue. Home-based businesses owners earned less than their counterparts who work outside the home, $22,569 compared to $38,243, but their earnings were worth more, which evened out the playing field.  “Due to lower expenses, particularly in rent and labor costs, the average home-based sole proprietor consistently gained a higher return on gross revenues at 36 percent, versus 21 percent for the non-home-based,” the report said.

 

Getting accurate reporting on home-based businesses is difficult, but the general consensus is that this is an area of the U.S. economy that will continue to grow, especially during an economic downturn where traditional jobs are more difficult to find.

Before you can have a successful home based business, you must first possess 3 "intangibles." These are things that must come from WITHIN you.

First,you must have a strong WHY.

Why MUST you have a successful home business? What is driving you? What is it that you CAN'T have in your life anymore and/or what is it that you absolutely MUST HAVE now?

For me, I couldn't stand working 12+ hours a day anymore and missing the experience of my children growing up. I also absolutely HAD TO HAVE the freedom of being able to control my life and finances through a little box (laptop computer) that I could carry with me anywhere in the world and not be tied to anyone's time pressures or demands but my own. That was my carrot and my stick. I felt a great pain deep in my gut of missing out on my children's lives and the incredible freedom that succeeding in a home based business would provide for me. I found my why. You MUST find yours.

You must BELIEVE that it is possible.

If you don't believe that it's POSSIBLE for you to have a successful home based business or make your living from home, you won't. It's that simple.

For me, figuring out that it was possible was just a matter of realizing that many other people were ALREADY making great money working from home. If they could do it, I could too. It would just be a matter of figuring out what those people were doing and then adapting it to my situation.
